Introduction
The MSc in Information Technology in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS provides a rigorous foundation in advanced IT research methodologies. Students will have the opportunity to conduct independent research in specialized areas such as cybersecurity, data science, and artificial intelligence under the guidance of experienced faculty. The program equips graduates with the critical thinking, research skills, and in-depth knowledge necessary for successful careers in research and development, academia, and industry​

Programme Objectives

1. Integrate advanced knowledge related to research issues in information technology. 
2. Recommend innovative solutions that are at the forefront of developments information technology field. 
3. Construct information technology solutions and tools in terms of their usability, efficiency and effectiveness; 
4. Demonstrate effective interaction within a group and with a diverse audience through project discussions and participation in discourses related to information technology field. 
5. Exhibit effective communication within a group and with a diverse audience by publishing and presenting technical materials information technology field. 
6. Utilise digital skills to acquire, interpret and extend knowledge in information technology. 
7. Apply numerical skills to acquire, interpret and extend knowledge in information technology. 
8. Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, autonomy and responsibility in delivering services related to information technology field. 
9. Exhibit capabilities to extend relevant knowledge through life-long learning 
10. Exhibit capabilities to having an entrepreneurial mindset related to information technology field. 
11. Uphold professional and ethical practices in conducting research and delivering services related to information technology field.

Programme Details

Department: Department of Computer and Information Sciences

Intakes: January, May, and September

Mode of Delivery: Fully online (Open Distance Learning)

Duration: 12 months – 36 months


Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computing from a recognised university with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or its equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computing with a CGPA of 2.50-2.74 or its equivalent will require internal rigorous assessment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computing with a CGPA of 2.00-2.49 or its equivalent will require 5 years of working experience and internal rigorous assessment.

Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in Computing or related fields recognised by the Government of Malaysia must undergo appropriate pre-requisite courses as determined by the HEP.

*Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate pre-requisite courses as determined by the HEP and meet a minimum CGPA of 2.00 with a minimum of five (5) years of working experience in related fields and rigorous internal assessment.

  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent
  • A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent
  • Native English speakers or those holding a degree with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from this requirement.

There is no specialization but students can do research in the area of Cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other fields that relates to IT.

Yes. Student may discuss with their supervisors on any potential industry collaborations and internships
 
Does the program have access to industry-standard software and tools?
Yes. Current students are using software and tools such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and others for their research.

We have computer labs, networking labs, data analytic labs and others for the students to use for their research.
