IED looks forward to continuing meaningful conversations with UTHM as both institutions work toward reimagining engineering education in Malaysia.

June 20, 2025 – The Integrated Engineering Department (IED) at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) welcomed a distinguished delegation from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) for an enriching academic-research collaboration session. This visit marked the beginning of a promising partnership between two institutions committed to shaping future-ready engineers through industry-aligned, interdisciplinary education.

The UTHM team comprised Prof. Ts. Dr. Alina Shamsuddin, AP Dr. Wan Nurul Karimah Wan Ahmad from the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FPTP), and Prof. Ir. Dr. CM Chan from the Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTK). Hosted by IED Chair AP Ir. Dr. Zahiraniza Mustaffa, a National Academic Award recipient and trailblazer in interdisciplinary engineering education, the session facilitated a two-way exchange of ideas, strategies, and insights into effective teaching and learning (T&L) practices.

At the core of the discussion was a shared aspiration to design industry-driven learning experiences that prepare students not only for employment, but for real-world challenges. UTHM’s interest in IED’s approach - especially its emphasis on integrated, project-based learning - sparked productive dialogue on scalable models that could be adapted across institutional contexts.

As part of the visit, Prof. Chan also delivered a Career Talk in conjunction with UTP’s Technology, Education & Career (TEC) 2025, hosted by the UTP Career Development Office. His session further strengthened the connection between academia and industry, reinforcing the shared vision of equipping students with both technical knowledge and professional readiness.

The day concluded with a heartfelt moment of camaraderie: a book gift exchange, where Prof. Alina presented her latest publication, Puasa Ammar, to UTP’s English Language Centre (ELC), a gesture symbolising the spirit of academic friendship and mutual growth.
