Industry Insights Power New Engineering Curriculum
UTP faculty and industry partners gather at the Year 1 Curriculum Industry Workshop, marking a collaborative step forward in shaping future-ready engineering education.
November 22, 2024 – The Integrated Engineering Department of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) hosted the Year 1 Curriculum Industry Workshop at CAPE, Permata Sapura Tower, Kuala Lumpur. This impactful event brought together educators and industry professionals to co-create innovative educational approaches and align academic content with real-world demands. The workshop was well-received by industry partners, who expressed admiration for UTP’s inclusive approach. Breaking away from traditional collaboration practices, where input is sought sporadically, this initiative actively involves industry leaders in shaping the entire student journey—a refreshing and forward-thinking strategy. Participants acknowledged the potential benefits for students, emphasising how this collaboration equips them with practical skills and insights critical for future success. Captain Munzir, one of the industry participants, highlighted the importance of grounding students in reality. “Students need regular reality checks to ensure their problem-solving and critical thinking processes align with industry needs,” he shared during the discussions. The workshop’s collaborative atmosphere and the sharing of expertise from diverse sectors were key to its success. This initiative underscores UTP’s commitment to producing adaptable, industry-ready graduates and fostering stronger ties between academia and industry to drive innovation in engineering education.
