The vibrant cityscape of Kuala Lumpur set the perfect backdrop for the UTP Alumni Entrepreneur Networking Day 2025, held on 14 June 2025 at CAPE, Menara Permata Sapura. A total of 39 alumni entrepreneurs gathered for a day packed with inspiring insights, strategic connections, and milestone moments — all aimed at strengthening the entrepreneurial spirit within the UTP alumni community.

Organised as part of the UTP Alumni Relations initiative in collaboration with the UTP Alumni Association, the event successfully brought together industry professionals, business owners, and aspiring entrepreneurs, marking yet another step towards nurturing a self-sustaining alumni ecosystem.

Franchising 101: Mitigating Risks in a Post-OGSE Endeavour

Speaker The day began with an eye-opening presentation by En. Deric Yeo Chin Lee, Secretary-General of the Malaysia Franchise Association (MFA). Titled “Franchising 101: Mitigating Risks in a Post-OGSE Endeavour”, the session offered attendees a deep dive into the current franchising landscape in Malaysia. En Deric detailed the legal frameworks surrounding franchising and the step-by-step considerations for those keen on entering this growing sector — a timely topic for alumni exploring business diversification beyond the oil and gas industry.

OGSE 2.0: From Employee to Employer

The forum session, moderated by En Muhammad Amin Jailani (CE Class of 2012), Secretary General of the UTP Alumni Association, turned the spotlight on alumni who successfully transitioned from industry professionals to entrepreneurs. The esteemed panel included:

The session evolved into an engaging dialogue, with thought-provoking questions raised by the audience and answered with honesty and wisdom by the panel.

A proud moment followed with the official launch of the UTP Alumni Business Directory, an initiative by the UTP Alumni Association. The directory aims to become a central hub for alumni entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration, visibility, and mutual support across industries and generations of UTP graduates.

One of the most anticipated segments of the day was the MoU Signing Ceremony, featuring six alumni-owned businesses formalising partnerships in the spirit of mutual growth and collaboration. These MoUs represent not just business deals, but a living testament to the strong bond shared among UTP alumni.
