All The Way From Texas
Henry or his real name, Yew Guo Zheng is a façade structural engineer at Curtain Wall Design & Consulting, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. Born and bred in Ipoh, this Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) class of 2010 did his alma mater proud working as a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas, USA. His work includes design of aluminium and steel curtainwall systems, metal panels, window glass panels and blast resistant frames. Some of Henry's most notable projects includes Amazon's Block 18 (Seattle) and Delta Airlines' Headhouse terminal at LaGuardia Airport (New York City). With a Master's and PhD in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University, Henry has not stop his thirst for research and innovation. He has a research which focuses on advancing nonlinear finite element analysis of monolithic and laminated glass plates. The research is applied together with the glass failure prediction model to determine the load resistance of simply supported rectangular glass plates subject to wind loads. Henry is currently expanding his research to determine the load resistance of point-supported glass. During his tenure as a doctoral candidate, he took interest in engineering education and was involved in outreach programmes to encourage participation of women at secondary schools in engineering. His research and outreach work were published in the ASCE Journal of Engineering Mechanics and Purdue University's Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research respectively. He is also a participating technical committee member for ASTM E1300 Standard Practice for Determining Load Resistance of Glass in Buildings. Henry enjoys rock climbing and golfing with his fellow colleagues, besides his lifelong passion for piano and chess. He also volunteers at Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for families in need. Looking back, Henry recalls his time at UTP helped him to develop his personality and has given him the tools to navigate the 'real world' with confidence. He hopes that he can do more for the University. |
