On 2nd December 2009, International Student Unit (ISU) and International Student Council High Committee (ISC) led by ISC Welfare Exco1, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Omer (Sudan) and ISC Welfare Exco 2, Mr. Issa Abdramane (Chad) had participated in a Malay Traditional Circumcision organised by Kampung Trong villagers at Trong, Perak.

This programme was participated by 55 international students from Sudan, Chad, Mauritania, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Mauritania. Three UTP English tutors also participated in the programme. They were Tuan Haji Rosli Bin Din, Madam Muazzah Bt Abdul Rahman and Madam Khairoon Nisha Bt Hassan.

The main objective of this programme is to enhance the integration values and expose the Malaysian culture amongst our UTP students especially the international students.

The program started with a very warm welcome from Encik Hamdan, Chairman of the Village and all the Kampong Trong villagers. Later, the male students were given the task to carry the village boys, who were to be circumcised, on their shoulders and usher them to the circumcision venue, while the female students carried the ‘bunga manggar’ and ‘bunga telur’. Later, the programme was officiated by Trong Assemblyman, Y.B. Datuk Haji Rosli Bin Husin.

After that, all the children were taken for a bath before the circumcision session. About 28 boys had participated in this program. The UTP students who witnessed the Malay Traditional circumcision were so excited to watch such an event for the first time.

Later the students were brought to a ‘dusun’ to plug rambutan fruits from the trees and also taste the durian. They had learned how to open the durian. After lunch, they went for a tour of Taiping Lake Garden and Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.
