Making Dodol & Bubur Lambuk and International Students Iftar (13 Sep 2009)

On 13th September 2009, International Students Unit, Residential College and Mosque Administration Unit of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) organised a programme called “Making Dodol & Bubur Lambuk and International Students Iftar” at the campus in Bandar Seri Iskandar.

The main objective of this programme is to establish and strengthen the relationship between the international students and the local students especially in introducing Malaysian culture in making local delicacies and experiencing the Iftar together.

The programme began in the morning with the act of mixing the “dodol” by Tuan Haji Mohammad Noor Rosli Bin Baharom, Director of Student Services, UTP. Then, the international and local students continued stirring the dodol until evening. Meanwhile, the students cooked “bubur lambuk”, “lemang” and “kuih loyang”. Students from Austria, Bangladesh, Chad, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia cooked their own traditional food for the Iftar.

In the evening, the guest of honour Puan Norhayati Daud, Senior Assistant Director, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE), accompanied by Encik Rosli Bin Sakimin, Senior Assistant Director, Student Affairs Unit, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, officially closed the programme.

Later, UTP Rector, YBhg Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Bin Haji Kasim joined the International students for Iftar, accompanied by Tuan Haji Mohamed Noor Rosli Baharom and Encik Talhah Hasan, Senior Manager of Residential College. After Iftar, they were invited to light the ‘panjut’.

It was indeed an interesting experience for the international students especially since they view this programme as an opportunity to learn about Malaysian culture and sharing their respective countries’ delicious traditional food with everyone present.
