Mission Awareness Programme 6 - 2010 at Kg Kuak Hulu, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak (1 - 5 July 2010)
International Student Unit (ISU) sent 22 international students and 20 local students (5 post-graduate students and 37 under-graduate students) to the “Mission Awareness Program 6 – 2010” with the theme “1 Mission, 1 Objective, 1 Malaysia, 1 World” at Kampung Kuak Hulu, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak Darul Ridzuan on 1st – 5th July 2010. This is the second time the same venue was chosen by ISU due to the good track record when the programme was held there last year. Furthermore, ISU wanted to continue to contribute to the village.
This programme was organised by ISU in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The objective of the programme is to establish and foster relations among the international students studying in Malaysia with the local community especially the participation of international students doing community services and knowing the local culture. The programme was officiated by Encik Ahmad Asmadi bin Mat Salim, Penghulu Mukim, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak. Twenty six (26) families participated in this programme of which each family adopted 2 - 3 students.
This 5-days programme was participated by UTP students from Bangladesh, Chad, Cambodia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Sudan, Thailand, Mozambique, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Various activities were organised, among them, visiting the factory of making fermented fishes at Lenggong, visiting the Archeological Museum at Lenggong, doing “Senamrobic” with villagers, participating in “Gotong-royong”, involving in the district’s Sports Carnival, organising a motivational talk by PETROSAINS Kuala Lumpur, contributing in “TEKAD” (school tuition to primary school students by UTP students) and celebrating the “Aspiration Night” with the foster families.
It was an interesting experience especially for the international students since they took this programme as an opportunity to learn about Malaysian culture. All the activities were filled with fun and excitement besides contributing to the village community and the foster families.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Assistant Director of Development and Student Affairs Division, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, Encik Azraai bin Zainuddin. The Senior Manager of Student Support Services Department of UTP, Encik Muhammad Syazwan Amarjit bin Abdullah, attended the ceremony as the official management representative of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. During the closing ceremony, Encik Muhammad Syazwan presented cash donation contributed by sponsors amounting RM1,200.00 to 6 orphan students of SK Kuak Hulu, Pengkalan Hulu and gave away donation of 8 wheel chairs to SK Kuak Hulu (one wheel chair), Kampung Kuak Hulu (two wheel chairs) and Welfare Department of Pengkalan Hulu (five wheel chairs).
