​Penang Bridge International Marathon (21 Nov 2010)

 

 



 
The Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) is a sports event catered to serious runners as well as amateur ones from both local and international grounds. Uniting thousands of marathon enthusiasts annually, the run is well known for its captivating sight of the sunrise as it reveals the panoramic view of the "Pearl of the Orient".
 

 

Held every year since 1985, people from all over the world come together to participate in this thrilling occasion of running across the third longest bridge in the world - The Penang Bridge, Penangites very own pride and joy. Catering to the PBIM event, it is the only time of the year that this honorable national landmark is ever closed from traffic for several hours.

 

 

 

Very popular among sportsmen, school-going youngsters, working adults and families in search of a good time, the PBIM comprises of a full marathon, a half marathon, a quarter marathon and a 10 kilometer fun run opened to those above the age of 13.

 

The Penang Bridge International Marathon is a much anticipated affair as trophies, finisher medals, and certificates among other prizes are given out to those who have accomplished the race in their best time as well as to those who take part in this enjoyable event.

 

This renowned event is organised by the Penang State Tourism Development, Cultural, Arts and Heritage.

 

On 21st November 2010, UTP sent three international students to participate in PBIM. UTP representatives were Mr. Almur Abdelkreem Saeed Rabih (MSc – EE), Mr. Izzeldin Idris Abdalla (MSc – EE) and Mr. Khalid Haroun Mohamed Abdelgadir (PHD – EE), Mr. Almur Abdelkreem Saeed Rabih and Mr. Izzeldin Idris Abdalla participated in the 10 KM men category competition while Mr. Khalid Haroun Mohamed Abdelgadir participated in the half marathon (21 KM) men category.

 

  

 

We are proud to inform that Mr. Almur Abdelkreem Saeed Rabih managed to secure the 9th place and Mr. Izzeldin Idris Abdalla at the 37th place out of 7,006 participants in the 10 KM men category. Meanwhile, Mr. Khalid Haroun Mohamed Abdelgadir managed to secure the 764th place out of 4,192 participants in the 21 KM men category.

 

Mr. Almur Abdelkreem received a medal for the 9th place, a finisher medal, a certificate and RM100.00 cash prize while the other two received a finisher medal and a certificate for each.
