​Turkmenistan President Conferred Honorary Doctorate by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (8 December 2011)​​​

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) conferred His Excellency Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the President of Turkmenistan an Honorary Doctorate in Petroleum Engineering and Technology on 8 December 2011 at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, KLCC.

The highest honour given by the university was presented by the University's Chancellor, YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in recognition of His Excellency 's effort in promoting the advanced application of engineering for the benefit of his country and humanity.

Since 1998, 56 Turkmenistan students have graduated from UTP and returned to their country, where they are actively contributing to nation-building.  Another 54 are now enrolled in various programmes at the university.

Also present at the ceremony were the University's Pro Chancellor, YBhg Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas, and the University's Vice Chancellor, YBhg Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim.
