UTP Emerged as Champion for two Consecutive Year in The International Student Sports Carnival 2011(28 – 30 October 2011)
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) contingent managed to uphold the title as the OVERALL CHAMPION for two consecutive years in The International Student Sports Carnival (ISSC) by winning 7 gold medals in Volleyball (Male & Female), Relay (Male & Female), Tug of War (Male & Female) & Sepak Raga Bulatan and 1 bronze medal in Badminton. The event was held in UTP from 28 to 30 October 2011.
More than 1000 international student athletes from 32 institutions of higher learning in Malaysia including Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Limkokwing University took part in the tournament. It was jointly organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and hosted by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). Eight games namely Futsal, Netball, Volleyball, Basketball 3 on 3, Sepak Raga Bulatan, Tug-of-War, Badminton and Campus Relay were contested.
The tournament was officiated by YBhg Dr Mohamed Ali bin Abdul Rahman, Director, Governance Division (Private Higher Education Institutions), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education representing YBhg Dato’ Professor Dr Rujhan bin Mustafa, Director General, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education. Also present during the officiating ceremony are YBhg Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Hj Kasim, Vice Chancellor of UTP, Tuan Haji Mohd Noor Rosli Baharom, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs & Alumni, members of management from all participating institutions of higher learning, staff and students of UTP.
The International Student Sports Carnival was first organised in 2007 with the objectives to inculcate healthy and productive integration amongst international students from various ethnics and nationalities with the local students of Public and Private higher learning Institutions. It is aimed to promote a competitive spirit and instil a sense of cohesion. It is also meant to produce graduates who are positive in their outlook, proactive, constructive and creative in their thinking.
The prizes were given away on the final day by Pn. Wan Nadiah Wan Daud, Principal Assistant Director, Development & Student Affairs Division, Department of Higher Education, MOHE accompanied by Tn. Hj. Mohamed Noor Rosli Baharom, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs & Alumni and En. Mohd Zuhri Zainudin, Manager of Co-Curriculum, Student Support Services Department.
