UTP Receives the Highest Grant (RM 12 milion) among all Local Universities for Long Term Research Grant Scheme (18 July 2011)
UTP received the highest amount of RM12 million in one project alone awarded under the Ministry of Higher Education’s Long-term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS) in a ceremony held on Monday, 18 July 2011 in Putrajaya in conjunction with the launching of the Ministry of Higher Education Research Fund.
The research grants were awarded by the Minister of Higher Education Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin accompanied by his deputy, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah. A total of 1022 research grants worth RM178 million had been approved to be channeled to public and private institutions for the year 2011. Most of the research grants were awarded to public institutions with a total of 912 grants, while the rest were awarded to private institutions of higher learning.
UTP’s research project which received the award is entitled “Next Generation Technology Based on Urea” headed by Professor Dr Noorhana Yahya, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology. The project is a result of the concerted efforts from her team members and smart partnerships with other universities. The key researchers for this project are Associate Professor Dr. M. Ibrahim A. Mutalib, Dr. Ku Zilati Ku Shaari, Associate Professor Dr. Chong Fai Kait, Associate Professor Dr. Anita Ramli, Hanita Daud, Professor Dr. Vijay Raghavan, Associate Professor Dr. Shuhaimi Mahadzir, Professor Dr. Khairun Azizi Azizli, Associate Professor Dr. Zakaria Man, Zamri Abdullah, Associate Professor Dr. Shaharin Anwar Sulaiman, Dr. Lau Kok Keong, Dr. Mokhtar Awang, Anis Suhaila Shuib, Associate Professor Dr. Shahrina M Nordin, Associate Professor Dr. Azrai Abdullah, Professor Dr. Mohamad Halib, Dr. Lai Fong Woon, Dr. Nurlidia Mansor, Associate Professor Dr. Radzuan Razali and Athirah Mohamad Tamidi.
This project also involves collaboration between Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).
