Tapestry of Colours 2015 – A Concert In Support of Yayasan UTP (17 May 2015) Over 200 Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) students sang, danced and performed their hearts out to raise funds for the Tapestry of Colours concert at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) tonight. Organised by Yayasan UTP (YUTP), UTP, Alumni UTP and DFP, this charity concert aims to raise funds for YUTP, a foundation that plays a key role in seeking donations and in forging new partnerships with individuals and organisations. The Foundation supports UTP through the next phase of its growth as a leading educational institution that promotes creativity and innovation.
“This concert is dedicated towards the development of UTP students in the areas of academics, arts and culture, sports, leadership and community services. Proceeds from this concert will support the various expenditure of the student development activities such as training courses, competitions, equipment and materials. I am also pleased to remind that your contributions to YUTP are tax deductible under Section 44 (6) of the Income Tax Act 1967,” said Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, Vice Chancellor of UTP. Since its establishment in 2010, YUTP has awarded scholarships and bursaries amounting to RM6.5 million to 400 students.
This year’s concert featured UTP’s multinational and multitalented engineering and technology students consisting of UTP PETRA Group, UTP Performing Arts Group, UTP Gamelan Group, UTP Virtuoso, UTP Chinese Orchestra Group, UTP Bhangra Group and UTP International Students Cultural Group. They brought to life a colourful and diverse cultural heritage through a medley of traditional and contemporary song and dance performances from Malaysia and other countries such as Yemen, Mozambique and Pakistan.
This year also saw popular and award winning artist, Siti Saleha performing at the concert. Guests of Honour for the concert was Tun Dr Siti Hasmah binti Mohd Ali. At the event, Puan Juniwati Rahmat Hussin, representing the Chairman of Yayasan UTP Board of Trustees, received mock cheques from generous sponsors and contributors, witnessed by Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim and Dato’ Raiha Azni Abdul Rahman, Chairman, Board of Directors, Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn. Bhd. The sponsors and contributors were Technip, who has pledged RM1 million for YUTP Scholarship Fund for three years from 2016 until 2018, Dialog Group Berhad, OPITO Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd and Schlumberger who has contributed RM100,000, RM50,000 and RM30,000 respectively for the YUTP Student Development Activities Fund, ExxonMobil and Makhostia’s contribution for RM100,000 and RM15,000 respectively for YUTP Bursary programme 2015, in-kind sponsors, Habib Jewels for RM 1.5 million worth of jewellery and SimplySiti for RM20,000 worth of makeup products, as well as individual contributors.
In total, YUTP has received more than RM1.4 million. |
