UTP signs MOU with Arts et Metiers, France (3 June 2015)
Widening its sphere of international collaborations, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has joined hands with Arts et Metiers ParisTech, a renowned university in France.
This is a very significant step for UTP, both in the field of research and to achieve its goal of becoming an internationally recognised research university.
The collaboration will further strengthen UTP’s international affiliation and bring two excellent institutions of higher learning together, working in different areas such as staff and student exchange programmes and internships. Double degree programmes, PhD joint supervision and visiting professors will also be features of this collaboration.
The groundwork to establish this partnership started last year with a visit by UTP delegates to Institut Image of Arts et Metiers ParisTech in Chalons sur Saone. Subsequently, UTP sent two more delegates, one to Arts et Metiers ParisTech in Anger and the other, once again, to Chalons sur Saone. As a result, UTP concluded an agreement for several research joint supervision with
Arts et Metiers ParisTech.
Arts et Métiers ParisTech is a French engineering and research graduate school, the equivalent of the French Ivy League. It is a general engineering school recognised for leading French higher education in the fields of mechanics and industrialisation. Founded in 1780, it is among the oldest French engineering institutions and is one of the most prestigious engineering schools in France.
“This collaboration will benefit the students and staff of both universities through international exposure, knowledge and technology exchange development and multi-faceted approaches to teaching and learning.
“For research activities, we are keen to be collaborating not only in the area of image processing and virtual reality, but also in other areas of similar interests,” said Abdul Rahim.
“UTP hopes to take its research activities to a higher level with this latest collaboration that adds to UTP’s wide array of already existing academic and research partnerships with local and international institutions.
“It is an honour and a privilege to work with Arts et Metiers ParisTech. This significant alliance augurs well towards the holistic development of UTP and further helps us to remain in touch and be relevant to the industry,” said Abdul Rahim.
The MoU between UTP and Arts et Metiers ParisTech was signed in France earlier this month and witnessed by Malaysian Ambassador to France, Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
Committed to excellence in academia as well as research, UTP is positioning itself to become a world class research university.
It is consistent in its drive to cultivate research culture and enhance research activities at the university. These activities not only steer UTP towards its goal but also to support the rapid development, innovation and technology in line with the Government’s Transformation Plan.
