Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has maintained its position in the top 200 of the 2015 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject for Chemical Engineering. In addition, three new subjects, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science & Information Systems have also positioned themselves in the world ranking.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlights the world’s top universities in 36 individual subjects, based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. UTP is one of the ten Malaysian universities named among the global top 200.
“Part and parcel of our effort to improve our standing as a reputable and credible provider of higher education services is to participate in various rating and ranking initiatives. These participations enable us to position where we are vis a vis our peers. They also help us to understand where our strengths and gaps are, which will allow us to address them appropriately for continuous improvement,” said UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim.UTP is also the only private university in Malaysia to be rated a four-star institution by QS, with a maximum five-star rating in five areas out of eight, namely employability, internationalisation, innovation, facilities and inclusiveness.
Furthermore, the university is the sole local private university to be ranked in the top 200 for the 2014 QS Asia University Rankings and ranked at 335 for the QS World University Rankings under Engineering and Technology Faculty.
Datuk Abdul Rahim said these recognitions place UTP on a global map of educational excellence and add to the university’s credentials.
