​New R&D building for UTP

The handing over ceremony of the completed new Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) R&D building took place on 20 January at UTP Project Site, R&D buildings.


UTP Vice Chancellor Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, KLCC Projeks Services Sdn. Bhd.  Head of Division Hilme Hassan, Johawaki Group Executive Director Dato Abdul Rahim Ahmad, Johawaki Sdn. Bhd. Chairman Dato Hisham Hj Nordin and Johawaki Sdn. Bhd. Managing Director Dato Hj Abdullah Che Mat were present at the ceremony.


The two-block R&D building is a four-storey high with a total floor area of 21,225 square metres. Its design is in compliance to the Green Building Index Certification.

 The new R&D building consists of 65 laboratories and offices at every floor.  It will be occupied by two main UTP Mission Oriented Research, namely Carbon Dioxide Management and Enhanced Oil Recovery.  The remaining office space will house the Exploration and Production Research laboratories which include Long-Term Research Grant Scheme, Hybrid Energy Systems, Centre of Advanced Safety Process, South-East Asia Carbonate Research Laboratory, Gas Separation Research, Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering Research.


Datuk Abdul Rahim said that it is important to create an environment that is fertile for research and UTP is constantly and continuously improving and adding to what it already has.

“The new R&D building demonstrates our determination towards consolidating and strengthening our R&D efforts. This will help us propel further in academic and research excellence and our journey towards becoming an internationally prominent and valued research institution,” he said.
