CONVO SWING: YUTP Charity Golf 2017
(23 September 2017)
Organised in conjunction with the 17th Convocation ceremony of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), the Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP) Charity Golf 2017 tournament attracted 72 avid golfers from multi industrial companies and organisations. The event successfully raised some RM 208,000 for the YUTP. The contributions to the YUTP bursary will enable it to award financial assistance to deserving students of the university.
Both UTP Pro-Chancellors, Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan who is also PETRONAS Chairman and Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, the PETRONAS President/CEO graced the event as did UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim and other top management personnel of PETRONAS.
Presently, some 40% of the undergraduate students at UTP benefit from and depend upon loans from various agencies to subsidise their studies and expenses. YUTP itself has awarded bursaries of more than RM 1,600,000 with some 220 students as beneficiaries annually.
Yayasan UTP was established in 2007 with the main intention of promoting and encouraging further education in Malaysia and also supporting the future development of UTP as a quality and excellent institution of higher learning. In addition to extending financial assistance to students, this foundation also contributes towards the university's research and innovation initiatives and supports the development of campus activities in arts, sports and culture.
This year's YUTP Charity Golf event saw Uzma Berhad, Fluor Daniel International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Bank of America Merril Lynch, Soulfly Engineering Sdn Bhd, Satcom Sales & Services Sdn Bhd, and Damai Urusniaga Sdn Bhd as the gold sponsors each contributing RM 20,000. HK Solutions Sdn Bhd, ACE Identity Sdn Bhd, Deleum Berhad, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad, Halliburton Energy Services (M) Sdn Bhd and Technip MFP Malaysia contributed RM10,000.00 each, as did Maybank and CIMB.
Much thanks and appreciation must be given to Transwater Tenaga Sdn Bhd who came forward with a generous RM197,000 cheque for YUTP to join industry research programme.
