UTP Celebrates Iftar with More Than 200 Orphans and Underprivileged

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) welcomes the month of Ramadan by reaching out to the needy through giving donations and Iftar with 60 underprivileged and 177 orphans from its surrounding community.
The underprivileged were from Taman Maju, Bandar Universiti, Seri Iskandar, Kg Tronoh, Kg Bali, Kg Ayer Denak as well as UTP security staff and general workers. They received cash donations of RM200 contributed by UTP staff.
The children came from Yayasan Amanah An Nur Maisarah Chemor, Asrama Darul Salam Ipoh, Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Haruman Kasih Ayer Tawar, Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Soleha Tanjung Tualang and Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Yatim dan Miskin Al-Munirah Parit.
They received cash donations from UTP staff, RM200 baju raya voucher from Yayasan PETRONAS as well as kurma and food items from PETRONAS Human Capital Investment.
The Iftar saw a turnout of more than 1000 guests comprising of Institute of Technology PETRONAS Board of Directors Chairman and PETRONAS Group Human Resource Management Senior Vice President Dato' Raiha Azni Abd Rahman, UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, representatives from Perak Government Departments, local authorities together with UTP staff and students.
To promote the spirit of volunteerism, the university staff and students joined hands to cook bubur lambuk. 1,300 packs of bubur lambuk were later distributed to its staff, students and surrounding community.
Earlier, Dato' Raiha presented zakat award from Tabung Amanah Zakat UTP (TAZU) to 157 UTP students. This event is part of the university's initiative in providing continuous financial support to students in need of financial assistance.
Afterwards Dato' Raiha who is also the Chairperson Board of Trustees Dana Asy-Syakirin presented a mock cheque amounting to RM 1.2 million to TAZU.
Other event held was the Sentuhan Kasih Ramadhan 2019 – STEM Programmme for the 177 orphans who attended the Iftar. The programme is facilitated by UTP volunteer students and assisted by UTP students sponsored by PETRONAS. It aims to nurture students in STEM and better the opportunities for underprivileged students to realise their potential through STEM education.
