Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad received the scholarship mock cheque from UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib during an Iftar organised by PCOM in Putrajaya recently.

This initiative shows the university's commitment and concern in providing opportunities to Palestinian students' access to tertiary education.

Apart from UTP, 11 other universities offering the scholarships are Albukhary International University, Management and Science University, Mahsa University, Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis, City University, Multimedia University, UCSI University, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Sunway University, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Also present at the event were the Prime Minister's wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, former Chairman of Hamas Khalid Mashal and Chairman of PCOM Muslim Imran.

Currently, 20% of UTP's students' population are international students from more than 60 countries.  Apart from the above scholarship, UTP has been sponsoring deserving Malaysian students from low income families (B40 group) to further their studies at UTP through Yayasan UTP and Tabung Amanah Zakat UTP.
