Supported by the Erasmus Programme, the project was partly to support higher education teaching and administrative staff to take part in professional development activities abroad and train students at higher education institutions. It consisted of student internship visit, teaching, sharing session, research discussion, review curriculum structure and syllabus from both institutions to establish jointly degree programme.

ERASMUS+ is a European Union programme to support education, training, youth and sports.

On the first day of the project, Dr Suriati met with Nur Maisarah Faeruz, a UTP Chemical Engineering student, who is currently doing her internship for six months at UniLaSalle Rennes. Dr Suriati then toured the campus and met postgraduate students who were part of Maisarah’s research team.

The teaching was conducted for eight hours within the five-day visit and the classes was attended by second year Environmental Engineering students.  The topics covered in the teaching included Wastewater Treatment via Photocatalysis and Hydrogen Production.  For the sharing session, it was a project-based learning experience and humanising engineering as part of a corporate social responsibility work.

There was also a research discussion among supervisors, postdocs and researchers led by Dr Hayet Djelal as well as several lab visits at the Environmental Engineering Department.

Lastly, Dr Suriati had a meeting with the International Office staff, Thomas Hull and Emmanuelle Chatillon.  Both parties (UTP and UniLaSalle Rennes) gave presentation about their respective university and the related curriculum structure offered for the purpose of a joint programme between both institutions.

With this project, it is hoped that UTP will expand its collaboration network through research supervision, co-authorship, and research grant co-researcher.  Apart from that, it will also promote
UTP student exchange programme through internship and research collaboration (final year project and postgraduate programme) as well as to promote postgraduate student programme offered by UTP.  In addition, it will also initiate the establishment of a twinning/double-degree programme between UTP and UniLaSalle Rennes.
