Kuching, 2 December 2022 – The World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2022 officially concluded today with a turnout of around 1,000 experts from 17 countries.
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib officiated the congress’ closing ceremony which saw academic fraternity, industry, government, non-government organisations and policy makers gathered for presentations, lectures, panel discussions and debates for a more a sustainable future.
ESTCON2022 offered a platform for like-minded individuals to keep abreast of the latest research and innovations, share knowledge, build connections and establish collaborations.
Themed “Future Energy & Smart Communities”, the renewed and enhanced congress delved deeper into the energy transition and transformation in nurturing a sustainable future, in line with PETRONAS’ energy transition initiatives to move towards Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE).
The honour of organising this event was proudly led by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and co-organised by Universiti Malaysia Sawarak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), FPT University Vietnam and Multimedia University (MMU).
The congress was supported by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia (MOSTI), Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Sarawak State Government through its Business Events Sarawak, Human Resource Development Corporation (HRDCorp) and the Malaysia Board of Technologists, Board of Engineers Malaysia, Alliance of Government Linked Universities (GLU), UTP’s HICoE-Centre for Biofuel & Biochemical Research (CBBR) and Yayasan UTP (YUTP), with PETRONAS as the main partner.
A UTP flagship event, ESTCON2022 is the largest congress in the world with eight international conferences held concurrently.
The conferences were International Conference on Digital Transformation and Intelligence (ICDI), International Conference on Emerging Smart Cities (ICESC), International Conference on Sustainable Oil Recovery and Digital Solutions (ICSORDS), International Conference on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ICESG), International Conference on Future Trends in Smart Communities (ICFTSC), International Conference on New Energy (ICNE), International Conference on Renewal Energy and E-Mobility (ICREEM) and International Conference on Sustainable Processes and Clean Energy Transition (ICSuPCET).
ESTCON2022 featured prominent keynote speakers, speakers and forum panellists who shared their expertise, including trends and issues on energy transition and smart communities from a global perspective.
In forging stronger ties with the industry and academic partners in areas related to ESTCON2022, UTP also signed three Memorandum of Understanding with the following institutions:
1. Institut Teknologi Sumatera, Indonesia for joint research activities, development of joint academic programmes, student mobility and co-organisation of international conferences.
2. Malaysian Nuclear Agency for consultation and support on nuclear related areas to enhance necessary skills, promote greater safety awareness and establish a competent workforce in the application of nuclear technology and its applications.
3. Centre of Applied Data Science Malaysia for the collaboration to strengthen, promote and build a resilient workforce in the ASEAN region.
Mohamed Ibrahim also presented the ESTCON2022 best paper and best presenter awards.
ESTCON2022 was officiated by YB Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak on 1 December 2022.
The Congress sponsors were Sarawak Energy Berhad, Dialog Group Berhad, Agilent Technologies, Velesto Energy Berhad and Transwater.
The next ESTCON is scheduled to be held in 2024.
