It’s never too late to share a success story of Dr Jundika Candra Kurnia, member of Solar Thermal Advanced Research Centre (STARC) from Institute of Self Sustainable Building (ISB). Dr Jundika presented 3 papers at the International Conference of Applied Energy (ICAE) 2018 which was held in Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 22nd – 25th August 2018, with the theme “Innovative Solutions for Energy Transitions”.
During the conference, Dr Jundika has the opportunity to meet with several researchers and brought home a number of tangible outcomes: Dr Agus Sasmito, McGill University and Dr Ali Madiseh, University of British Columbia (UBC) on Geothermal energy extraction from abandoned oil well. Both of them were invited to UTP on 10 December 2018 as speakers in “Research Seminar Series by Visitor from McGill University and University of British Columbia Canada” organised by Mechanical Engineering Department. The visit fostered research collaboration in geothermal energy extraction which is aligned with STARC areas in Thermal Energy System. Prof. Tariq Shamim (Professor & Associate Chair of Engineering at University of Michigan-Flint), Subject Editor Applied Energy, on polymer membrane fuel cell research. Possibility of joint publication on review paper on dead-end PEM fuel cell Invited to become Visiting Professor for Mechanical Engineering Department Prof Tariq greed to collaborate on fuel cell research Prof Dr Guohua Chen, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in exploring China research fund. Prof Ng Kim Choon (Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) on the utilization of thermal energy from geothermal well for adsorption cooling. He has expressed his interest in STARC research on utilization of abandoned oil well for geothermal energy extraction. He has agreed to collaborate with UTP, McGill and UBC to work on the utilization of thermal energy from geothermal well for adsorption cooling
Dr Jundika expressed his gratitude, especially to Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, Vice Chancellor UTP, Prof Ir Dr M Shahir Liew, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation and AP Dr Noor Amila, Director of Institute of Self Sustainable Building for the opportunity to attend the conference which allows him to explore possible collaborations with renowned researchers on energy field.
Last but not least, all manuscripts presented have been published in Energy Procedia. One manuscript “Performance evaluation of ground‐ coupled seasonal thermal energy storage with high resolution weather data: Case study of Calgary, Canada” has been invited for special issue in Applied Energy (APEN-D-19-00788R1) and is currently under review.
