Dear Prof/Ir/AP/Dr/Ladies & Gentleman,
PETRONAS-UTP on the 14th November 2019 had engaged with academicians from 13 universities namely UMT, UTP, UTM, UCSI, APU, UNIMAS, UIAM, UTHM, MMU, UMP, UM, Taylors and UKM. The event was to undertake a workshop session for Decommissioning & Abandonment (D&A) of Offshore Oil Platforms in Malaysia. The session conducted was used as a discussion and information exchange platform between the industry and academia sectors. The aim is for PETRONAS-UTP to be informed of their projects and research or potential new research which are relevant or possible to assist PETRONAS and the oil and gas industry in upcoming D&A projects.
The event was graced by Welcoming Remarks by UTP DVCRI, Prof Ir Dr M Shahir Liew, followed by Opening Speech by En Zamri B Jaidi, Head of Construction, HUC and Decommissioning (CHCD). PETRONAS PD&T team gave a presentation on Decommissioning Overview, and subsequently the workshop session. The workshop shared with the universities, the specific scopes of the D&A process and supply chain in which the academicians were to provide their research information for each defined scope. The D&A scopes are as follows:
1) Late Life Planning & Preparation
2) Regulatory Framework & Permitting
3) Wells Plug & Abandonment (P&A)
4) Hook Down/Well Making Safe/Hydrocarbon Free
5) Removal & Remediation
6) Post Remediation
The information exchanged during the workshop are to be documented, and later the academicians will be invited to share or submit their research abstracts to PETRONAS-UTP to properly document and specify on which research are most relevant to the D&A process.
