Dynamic Duo: Twin Sisters Win Top Awards at Asian Downstream Summit 2024



The Asian Downstream Summit (ADS) is recognised as Asia’s most influential downstream oil and gas event, taking place from 22nd to 24th October 2024 at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore. The ADS Awards have been recognised as the most prominent awards ceremony for oil and gas in the Asia Pacific industry calendar, which honours and recognises industry visionaries and companies who have shown outstanding performance and innovative technologies.

Dr. Serene Lock Sow Mun, our senior lecturer from the Chemical Engineering Department, has been awarded the ADS Female Engineer of the Year 2024 award for her efforts in transforming research works into practical decarbonisation solutions. The Female Engineer of the Year award recognises a female oil and gas professional who has shown outstanding promise in her field and has made, and continues to contribute, tremendous value to her organisation’s performance and culture.



Worth mentioning, her twin sister, Ir. Ts. Irene Lock Sow Mei, a senior process engineer currently serving at PETRONAS Group Technical Solutions, who is also one of our remarkable UTP alumni and the recipient of UTP's Chancellor Gold Award during the 2015 convocation​, has been conferred the ADS Young Engineer of the Year 2024 award for being an academic excellence champion. The Young Engineer of the Year award recognises a young engineer who has shown potential to become a key contributor to the future development of the industry, showcasing outstanding performance and initiative in their organisation, with a strong prospect of reaching top management level.​
