Delving Beyond Hydrocarbons
Seismic imaging has been one the key focus areas of research and consultancy work undertaken at UTP over the years. Advances in subsurface imaging technology aren’t just boosting the search for hydrocarbons; in recent years geophysical methods of subsurface investigations have been applied in areas related geo-energy, groundwater exploration, earthquake seismology as well as in search and rescue operations. UTP is the only university and research institute that is offering integrated geophysical investigations, from active to passive methods in Malaysia. We have the resources and capability including the software and data processing server that allows us to process huge volume of data sets. These know-how and technology enable us to deliver output within a suitable timeframe and at competitive prices.
Corrosion Research with Sarawak Energy for Bakun Hydroelectric Plant
UTP, through its Centre for Corrosion Research (CCR), and Sarawak Energy are working together for a fundamental study of bulk and surface chemistry, assessment of coating performance, and development of a novel framework of corrosion management plan for the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant. In line with Sarawak Energy's commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence as they continue to supply renewable energy to their customers from Bakun, this research collaboration will also provide rich learnings for future hydropower developments in the Rajang Basin and across Borneo with similar conditions such as geographical terrain, flora and hydrology.
Strategic Partnership in Bringing Smart Solar Powered Streetlight Pole Closer to Market
UTP and Mestron Energy Sdn Bhd (MESB) entered a strategic partnership to bring Smart Solar Powered Streetlight Pole closer to market. The smart pole has the capability to monitor and identify any real time safety, health and security situation with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It can be placed in areas that do not have electricity supply such as riverbanks, remote road junctions and illegal landfill areas. Upon identification of the situation, the smart pole can provide alerts to the relevant local authority via Whatsapp and short message service for further action to be taken. The commercial ready product shall be available by May 2022 and marketed in Malaysia by MESB.
Collaboration to Advance Research & Technology In Green Energy Industry with USACH
