Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP) organised The Tapestry of Colours Charity Dinner (TOCCD) and raised more than RM700,000.
The dinner, held with the support from PETRONAS and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), aimed to raise funds for the granting of scholarships to deserving UTP students.
Contributions for the charity dinner came from corporate and individual sponsors.
The main sponsors were Dialog Group Berhad, Seadrill, TechnipFMC, Conocophillips, Synerlitz Sdn Bhd, YB Yeo Bee Yin (UTP Alumni), under the 'Peruntukan Khas Menteri' – Special Minister's Allocation, KLCC Property Holdings Berhad, Transwater API Sdn Bhd, QR Apparel Sdn Bhd, Uzma Berhad and Code of Origin Sdn Bhd.
During the event, YUTP also launched the "I SHARE" campaign with the objective of raising RM75 million of funds for over a period of 5 years. The philanthropic outcome of this campaign ensures financial sustainability in helping UTP deserving students to achieve their academic dreams.
The event also saw the launch of UTP students' crowdfunding projects featuring UTP rugby team - UTP Drillers (a project to fund rugby training and facilities to produce future generation of all-star rugby players), UTP gamelan group - Sanggar Kirana (a project to preserve the cultural heritage of gamelan), Beacon of Hope (a project to conduct soup kitchens for the underprivileged), Youth Cleanup Day (a social voluntary programme to combat the global solid waste problem) and A-Qual Life (a project to provide solution to access clean water for the Orang Asli community in Simpang Pulai Perak). Altogether, nearly RM40,000 were raised that night for the crowdfunding.
Guests were also entertained with performances from UTP talented engineering, science and technology students from UTP Performing Arts Group, Interbeatz Dance Crew, Petra, Virtuoso, Gajjdi Jawani, Sanggar Kirana and UTP String Ensemble.
About 300 guests attended the dinner, including PETRONAS Chairman, UTP Pro Chancellor and TOCCD Patron YBhg Datuk Ahmad Nizam Salleh, UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, UTP industry partners and alumni.
Apart from the TOCCD event, 10 January 2020 was a significant date for UTP as it marks the university's 23rd anniversary.
