Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has been awarded a 6-STAR (highest level and the only private university) and Special Award - Outstanding Achievement in Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) Star Rating 2020 based on 2018 data. Special Award is given due to UTP is able to maintain yearly outstanding achievements since 2015.

It was announced on 16th March 2020, by YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Fauzi Bin Mohd Zain, Director of Higher Education Research Excellence Division in Majlis Penganugerahan Watikah Penarafan Bintang MyRA® 2020 held at Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya. Professor Ts. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Mutalib received the awards on behalf of UTP. The award was given by Minister of Higher Education, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Dr. Noraini Binti Ahmad.

MyRA® is an instrument for measuring the Research, Development, Commercialisation, and Innovation (RDC*I) activities in Public and Private University, branch campuses and University Colleges in Malaysia.

MyRA® assessment is based on three key aspects; input, process, and output which includes seven (7) main criteria:

2. Quantity and Quality of Research
3. Quantity and Quality of Postgraduates
4. Innovation
5. Professional Services and Gifts
6. Networking and Linkages
7. Support Facilities
