On 04 June 2020

UTP is positioned at 124th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2020 and is ranked third in the nation.

UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said despite the university’s young age of 23 years, it has continuously achieved excellence by maintaining its position as the top private Malaysian university, proven through consistently being ranked in the world and the nation rankings and ratings such as Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), THE, Malaysia Research Assessment Rating System (MyRA) and Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education (SETARA).

Notably, UTP is the first private university in Malaysia to be rated a maximum 5-star overall rating in the QS StarsTM University Rating System. For QS Asia University Rankings 2020, UTP is ranked 82nd, making it Malaysia’s only private university in the top 100 QS Asia.

UTP’s international reputation for the quality of its courses is further recognised as the institution is ranked amongst the world’s top universities in seven subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Broad Subject of Engineering and Technology 2020. Overall, UTP is ranked 259.

Furthermore, UTP is the only private university in Malaysia to achieve a six-star rating (the highest performance level) in MyRA for its research development and commercialisation programme. It has maintained its excellent performance with a six-star rating since 2015.
