Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) took home a total of 13 awards, clinching five gold and six silver medals as well as two special awards at the virtual Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2021 held recently.
All UTP 11 product entries won award. This outstanding achievement does not only contribute towards the university’s resume of successful homegrown inventions, innovations and technologies but also open opportunities for the commercialisation of the university's new products and ideas.
“TowerSense – Structural Health Monitoring System for Telecommunication Tower” a technology invented by Ir Dr Lim Eu Shawn won the Special Award - MTUN TVET International Innovation Award, The Best Award for the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Broadcast Category and a gold medal.
Other inventions which contributed gold medal were "Mini Portable Solar Still (MPSS)” a product developed by Assoc Prof Dr Khamaruzaman Wan Yusof, “Intelligent Mental Stress Monitor (i-MSM)” an innovation by Assoc Prof Dr Syed Saad Azhar Ali, “Clathrate Hydrate Based Seawater Desalination Reactor” an inventive product on wastewater treatment by Dr Bhajan Lal and “LENFLOC” a powder-based wastewater treatment technology by Dr Ho Yeek Chia.
UTP’s inventions that won silver medals were “DT.Offloading” a technology software invented by Prof Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew and Assoc Prof Ir Dr Zahiraniza Mustaffa, “NeToxIC” a fire retardant coating tech by Prof Dr Faiz Ahmad, “Real-Time Prediction of SPG in Drilling Operation” a predictive software by Assoc Prof Dr Syahrir Ridha and “Monitoring & Acclimatisation Neural-Trained Aquaculture System (MANTA)” an Internet of Things (IoT) software developed by Ir Dr Lim Eu Shawn.
The remaining two silver medals went to “EDIT” and “I-LAUREATE”, both products on healthcare by Assoc Prof Ir Dr Irraivan Elamvazuthi.
The MTE 2021 aims at establishing connections with innovators virtually, with over 160 exhibitors, showcasing more than 500 innovations from 16 countries. It acts as a one-stop platform for innovators, designers and entrepreneurs to showcase their latest inventions, ideas, prototypes, products and designs to investors, manufacturers, distributors and marketers in Asia.
