Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) inventors continue their outstanding achievement in research and innovation when they won eight gold and seven silver medals, with one of the inventions accorded special recognition, at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2022.
This was a commendable achievement for UTP as all 15 inventions won medals, winning at least silver medals.
UTP’s achievement in the MTE 2022 does not only contribute towards the university’s resume of successful homegrown inventions, innovations and technologies being recognised internationally, but also open opportunities for the commercialisation of the university's new products and ideas.
Augmented Reality (AR) App for Centrifugal Gas Pump (ARCP) a research led by Associate Professor Ts Dr Noreen Izza Arshad won gold and received the MTE 2022 Special Award – Outstanding Innovation Award.
Other inventions which won gold were PREDITACK: An IoT-Enabled Pest Management Device for Invasive Mollusc in Paddy Fields a research led by Ts Dr Mazeyanti Mohd Ariffin, Smart Permeability Modifier a research led by Associate Professor Dr Ismail Mohd Saaid, Autism Made Easy a research led by Associate Professor Ts Dr Wan Fatimah Wan Ahmad and HyCoat Mixed Electro-discharge Machining: Simultaneous Machining and Hybrid Coating of Biomedical Implants a research led by Associate Professor Dr Ahmad Majdi Abdul Rani.
Digitalising Operations and Maintenance via Artificial Intelligence (DOMAIN) a research led by Associate Professor Ts Dr Jafreezal Jaafar, Ultra Long-Range Acoustic Technology (ULRAT) a research led by Dr Lukman Ab. Rahim and ValveStic™ a research led by Associate Professor Dr Haslinda Zabiri also contributed gold medals.
Meanwhile, UTP’s inventions that won silver medals were Oil-based Defoamer for Oil and Gas Applications a research led by Ts Dr Khairulazhar Jumbri, MHP Toolbox a research led by Associate Professor Dr Srinivasa Rao Pedapati, A Drop Type Fixed Bed Reactor and a Method for in Situ Upgrading of Bio-Oil from Biomass a research led by Ts Dr Noridah Osman, Autonomous Wheelchair for Carrying Pilgrimage to Perform Tawaf and Saie a research led by Professor Dr Abd Rashid Abd Aziz and E-CLASS a research led by Associate Professor Ir Dr Irraivan Elamvazuthi.
Two other inventions that contributed silver medals were Digital Twin and Predictive Maintenance Software of Dry-Low Emission (DLE) Gas Turbine a research led by Dr Madiah Omar and Smart Crack Technology Instrument (SCTi™) a research led by Associate Professor Dr Abdul Rahim Othman.
MTE has grown to become one of the region’s most recognised and respected international invention exhibitions, each year connecting more inventors with industry players.
The event provides a one-stop platform for inventors, designers and entrepreneurs to showcase their latest inventions, ideas, prototypes, products and designs to investors, manufacturers, distributors and marketers in Asia and beyond, paving the way to connect them with those who are seeking new ideas, as well as technological commercialisation and collaboration.
