The public can now gain access to a collection of more than 12 million scientific and non-scientific materials for free via the 'Knowledge Hub' or K-Hub introduced by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).
UTP said K-Hub, the first in the country, plays the role of a one-stop centre and was launched by the Perak Education, Higher Learning and Human Resources Committee Chairman Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud recently. K-Hub contains a collection of material such as articles, journals, books, theses, expert profiles and image archives.
“To gain access in this K-Hub, one can visit khub.utp.edu.my. Each information search obtained is structured and authentic,” said UTP in a statement today.
“This is one of UTP's efforts, through the university's Information Resource Centre, to share the latest, smart and sustainable information to people around the world in line with the requirements of today's digital environment,” read the statement.
Apart from launching the K-Hub, Ahmad Saidi also closed the ‘E-STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Arts and Music) Waves’ competition, organised by the university.
The competition was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB), Pertubuhan Rakan Komuniti Pendidikan Perak (PRKPP) and Petrosains, as well as support from the Education Ministry and Perak government.
UTP said the programme, requiring participants with knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Humanities as well as reading ability and technological skills such as video editing, and the use of the internet, attracted more than 1,000 entries from schools nationwide.
“This programme is organised to increase community interest and awareness about the importance of the STEM and STREAM education to meet the challenges and demands of the economy in the present as well as the future.
“As a higher education institution that is based on engineering, science and technology, UTP is always committed to leading the progress and excellence of STEM and STREAM education for national development,” it said.
The event was also attended by PRKPP chairman Datuk Normah Hanum Ibrahim; National Digital Library (PERDANA) Director Aidatul Hasnida Abdul Rani; UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib; heads of state departments and Perak Tengah district as well as school principals, teachers and students.
