Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has renewed its collaboration with Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) Indonesia in the areas of academic, research and student development programmes.
To mark the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held recently at UTP campus. UTP was represented by its Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib while UIR was represented by its Rector, Professor Dr H. Syafrinaldi.
The second signatories for the MoU were UTP Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Professor Ir Dr Hilmi Mukhtar and UIR Vice Rector of Student Cooperation and Alumni Affairs Dr Admiral.
The signing was witnessed by Riau Governor, Dr Syamsuar.
The renewal of this collaboration signals that the on-going academic, research and student development activities between the two universities have been fruitful and have produced successful results in the targeted areas.
This collaboration was first established with an MOU signing between both parties in 2018. Through this partnership, UTP and UIR secured 10 matching grants from 2018 to 2020. From this matching grants, 10 articles were published in Q1 and Q2 journals. With the success of this programme, 12 more matching grants were secured between 2021 to 2022. Currently, UTP is in the process of completing 7 joint research proposals collaboration between UTP-UIR-UMP-UNITELKOM Indonesia.
For students’ developments, 13 UTP students had undergone student exchange programme for MPU4 project where 1 of them got to experience internship programme at UIR. In return, 5 UIR students underwent research attachment at UTP between 2019 to 2020.
The MoU is a testament of UTP's continuous effort in realising its aspiration to become a prominent internationally recognised higher learning institution.
Through the partnership, UTP hopes that it will strengthen the cooperation between both countries and attract more prospective Indonesian students, especially from the Riau Province, to enrol in UTP.
