UTP celebrates the holy month of Ramadan by giving back to the community through hosting Iftar and distributing essential items to the underprivileged, along with providing cash donations to the orphanages.
Contributions poured in from both UTP staff and the Jawatankuasa Kariah Masjid An-Nur UTP, reflecting a collective effort to support the less fortunate. These contributions were distributed to 23 underprivileged and 84 orphans from various locations surrounding UTP.
The underprivileged were UTP security staff and general workers where each recipient received essential items worth RM200.
Meanwhile, the orphans, each receiving RM50, came from Rumah Anak Yatim Soleha Tg Tualang, Rumah Anak Yatim Bait Al Amin Parit, Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Haruman Kasih Ayer Tawar and Rumah Anak Yatim Al Munirah Bota.
This year, UTP together with Yayasan PETRONAS, organised the Uplifting Lives Festive (ULF) Aidilfitri programme, which is part of the Yayasan PETRONAS’ Community Well-Being and Development initiative aimed at celebrating major festivals in Malaysia. This programme anticipates reaching over 4950 beneficiaries across Malaysia this year.
In collaboration with PETRONAS Central and Northern Offices, Yayasan PETRONAS aims to help alleviate the burden of the underprivileged in several states, namely Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, and Selangor.
In Perak, 350 underprivileged identified by the Department of Social Welfare received assistance in the form of essential food items donated by Yayasan PETRONAS.
More than 1700 guests attended the Iftar, including Perak Social Welfare Department Director Nor Tipah Majin, UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, PETRONAS Central and Northern Office Head Abu Hanzalah Abu Bakar, UTP Executive Management Committee members, representatives from Perak government departments, local authorities, media as well as UTP staff and students.
Prior to the Iftar, UTP students organised various activities for the orphanages. The activities aimed to nurture students in STEM and improve opportunities for underprivileged students to realise their potential through STEM education.
