Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has made a remarkable leap in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2024, climbing an impressive 47 spots to secure the 32nd position from its previous ranking of 79th.
This is a significant accomplishment, establishing the university's position as a leading institution for higher education on the global stage. Notably, with this achievement, UTP has maintained its position as Malaysia's number one university in the rankings for the fourth consecutive year since 2021.
Established in 1997, UTP is a young university that has made remarkable strides in THE Young University Rankings. This ranking recognises the world's top universities under 50 years old, and UTP, at only 27 years old, has consistently demonstrated exceptional progress, solidifying its position among the world's rising stars in higher education.
Over the past seven years, UTP has climbed steadily, moving from the 151-200 band (2017-2018) to the 101-150 band (2019-2020). In 2021, UTP achieved 134th position, followed by 119th in 2022 and a significant jump to 79th in 2023. This year's achievement of 32nd position marks UTP's most successful year in the rankings to date.
UTP's commendable rise in the rankings highlights its commitment to providing world-class education, fostering groundbreaking research, and nurturing future-ready graduates.

UTP actively supports PETRONAS' vision for a sustainable future by integrating sustainability principles into its curriculum, research activities, and student experiences, ultimately contributing to achieving Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE) by 2050.
