As a yearly event, this Young Scientist Camp (YSC 6) 2024 was officially sanctioned by Bahagian Pendidikan Menengah MARA and has received an overwhelming response from schools, teachers, and participants. With the themed "Sustainable Futures: A Futuristic Journey Through STEAM," this camp aims to inspire young minds and cultivate a passion for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics among secondary school students.

With enthusiastic participation of students from 17 schools, we are thrilled to offer this extraordinary learning experience. Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in university life while engaging in a variety of captivating modules and activities designed to spark their curiosity and creativity. Through collaborative group projects and individual challenges, participants will showcase their talents and compete for prestigious awards. The camp's curriculum is meticulously structured to foster a deep understanding of STEAM principles and their application to real-world challenges, ultimately contributing to the creation of a sustainable future.

The participants delved into an engaging learning experience with modules on Product Showcase (SolarClass Tablets), Chemistry Creations (Crafting Scents & Creative Innovations), Physics Exploration (Understanding Its Fundamental), Codey Rocky the Explorer (Your Gateway to Robotics) and STEAM Infographic Poster Design Competition. Beyond the modules, participants enjoyed various activities, including a UTP tour, Sustainable Artwork creation, the Swift Sweat Session (SSS), and a Talent Show during the dinner event.

Mr. Tun M Faliq Aizat b. Tajul Ariffin, Senior Executive of Admission, Records & Marketing, Registry Division also shared valuable insights into UTP’s facilitation, student exchange programs, internships, scholarships and other opportunities, which captivated the participants. We also had a session with two Foundation alumni, Muhammad Nur Aiman Haja Maidin and Airani Aryani Anis Abdullah, who shared their experiences and the exciting activities they enjoyed during their time at UTP, as part of the YSC Dinner.

To recognise and reward the outstanding achievements in STEAM demonstrated by participants in YSC 6, we established various award categories based on group performance and specific slots. The recipients of these accolades include MRSM Taiping, who secured the Gold Award, Pusat PERMATA Pintar Negara earned the Silver Award and MRSM Parit achieved the Bronze Award. Additionally, Muhammad Talhah b. Abdul Halim from Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gopeng (I-Gop) received the Best Participant award.

Reflecting on the three-day event, participants found that YSC 6 exceeded their expectations, with the Chemistry Creations (Crafting Scents & Creative Innovations) module and the ‘UTP Tour’ were highlighted as the most engaging activities.

Furthermore, YSC 6 significantly enhanced participants’ interests and skills in STEAM subjects. Looking ahead, a strong majority expressed interests in participating in future YSC events.

The success of YSC 6 not only reflects the excellence of UTP in promoting STEAM education but also highlights our collective commitment to inspiring the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and leaders.
