UTP Strengthens Commitment to Community Development
On 01 February 2025

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Vice Chancellor Professor Dato' Ir Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib recently hosted an engagement session with community leaders and representatives from Seri Iskandar, Bota and Tronoh. The session was also attended by UTP's management.

Mohamed Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the attendees, emphasising the crucial role of ongoing collaboration between the university and surrounding communities.

“The positive relationship between UTP and the local communities has played a significant role in the university’s achievements over the years. Our success is deeply intertwined with the positive relationships fostered with local communities since its establishment 28 years ago,” he said.

UTP celebrated a significant achievement with its remarkable rise in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, surging into the 201-250 band. This marks UTP's debut among the top 250 universities worldwide. This achievement solidifies UTP's position as the leading university in Malaysia and the top private university in ASEAN.

“We credited this milestone to the support from the surrounding community, emphasising that such success is not only a university achievement but a collective community triumph,” he added.

UTP continues to actively contribute to the community through initiatives focused on education, socioeconomics, and environment.

In education, UTP promotes STEM learning through programmes such as ESTREAM WAVES and various initiatives for indigenous communities, inspiring future generations of scientists and engineers.

To enhance socio-economic well-being, UTP collaborates with government agencies and industry partners on projects such as the Perak Tengah Circular Economy and Food Security Hub (HenSeM). This initiative aims to foster sustainable agricultural practices, boost local economies, and position Perak Tengah as a hub for agricultural bioeconomy innovation by 2027.

Furthermore, UTP is dedicated to environmental sustainability through initiatives such as reducing carbon footprints on campus, promoting renewable energy sources like solar power, and encouraging community adoption of sustainable practices.
