Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has signed a memorandum of understanding with (MoU) Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) for academic partnership, credit transfer and resource sharing.
The collaboration will emphasise several fields including student mobility programme, joint facilitation and supervision of postgraduate studies, exchange of academic staff (including research attachment), joint research and teaching activities, participation in seminars and academic meetings, joint and exchange of publications, conferences and symposium as well as academic programme development.
UTP Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Prof Dr Hilmi Mukhtar signed the MoU on UTP's behalf, while Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam represented CUB.
The ceremony took place at CUB campus in Banani, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
According to Dr Hilmi, UTP is constantly expanding and growing our network and collaborative efforts knowing that one of the keys for growth is networking with the right partners. The university's goal is to become an internationally recognised partner of choice for industry and respected scientific community by the year 2025.
"The signing of this MoU is an important step in maintaining a sustainable relationship with institutions in Bangladesh. With this collaboration, it will also pave the way to attract more prospective Bangladeshi students to study in UTP and the Southeast Asian countries.
"We hope that with more CUB students pursuing their education in UTP, it will strengthen our higher education value proposition, capacity and capabilities in Malaysia," he said.
Currently UTP has 16 Bangladeshis studying in UTP, four undergraduates and twelve postgraduates.
Delegates from UTP who also attended the MoU signing ceremony were Dean Faculty of Science & Information Technology Associate Prof Dr Jafreezal Jaafar and Senior Executive Admission & Records, Registry Ahmad Zamdi Ab Hamid. Meanwhile, present from CUB were Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nazrul Islam and Additional Registrar Bahauddin Muhammad Isa.
After the MoU, UTP and CUB conducted a seminar entitled "Prospects of Higher Studies in Malaysia Focusing on Opportunities at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia".
