Prof Khan is Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (Global Engagement), in the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice-President of Monash University. He oversees the university's international strategy developments, new market strategies and a range of international operations.
Prof Khan has been instrumental in a number of major international innovation initiatives including the establishment of the Australian component of the Monash-Warwick Alliance (one of the world's leading models for international collaboration) and in the development of unique new strategies for Monash in Indonesia, the Middle East, Latin America and beyond.
He has introduced comprehensive engagement models that involve research, education, industry and government organisations moving beyond the traditional international education strategies of most universities. Prof Khan, as Director of Nanoscience at Monash, previously led the creation of the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (Australia's national nanofabrication centre) and the creation of Green Chemical Futures.
Prior to Monash, Prof Khan was a Deputy Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology (at University College London). Prof Khan has also worked in industry, particularly with Booz Allen and Hamilton in the USA, and is a regular advisor to governments, industry and academia on innovation strategy.
