1. Tapestry of Colours Charity Dinner (TOCCD) 2023
In YUTP’s efforts to provide a platform to raise funds, the Tapestry of Colours charity dinner was
scheduled for 10 January 2023 at Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The dinner aimed to raise funds for
the granting of scholarships to deserving UTP students.
The fundraising efforts were initiated in 2022 and as of 31 December 2022, a sum of RM196,000
was successfully collected for the event, with the support of many corporate partners, mainly from
PETRONAS and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).
The contributions for the charity dinner came from corporate and individual sponsors such as
CIMB Bank Berhad, Dialog E&C Sdn Bhd, Maybank, and Malaysian Petrochemicals Association.
Research & Innovation
1. World Engineering, Science & Technology (ESTCON) 2022
World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2022 was co-organised by the
Alliance of Government-Linked Universities, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE),
the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia (MOSTI), the Academy of Sciences
Malaysia (ASM), the Sarawak State Government through its Business Events Sarawak, Human
Resources Development Corporation (HRDC), and the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT).
The congress was held from 01 to 02 December 2022 with more than 1,000 experts in diverse
fields of research, innovation, and commercialisation from around 30 countries.
The seventh edition of the congress delves into Future Energy and Smart Communities and
encompasses a wide range of fields in engineering and technology innovation as well as in
humanities. A UTP flagship event, ESTCON2022 was the largest congress in the world with eight
main conferences held concurrently.
The previous five Congresses held in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 had successfully
gathered more than thousands of participants from all over the world.
The fundraising effort for this Congress had received RM78,000 worth of sponsorship in 2022, thus
far contributed by various corporations and industries such as Sarawak Energy Berhad, Dialog E&C
Sdn Bhd, and Agilent Technologies, among others.
Student Development Activities
1. Menggapai Impian & YUTP School Kits Giving Campaign 2022
This particular CSR project was organised by the YUTP in collaboration with UTP Stakeholders
Management Department as part of the University Social Responsibility (USR) programmes. The
fundraising campaign was held from December 2022 until March 2023 to alleviate the families’
financial burden when it comes to back-to-school costs, especially those parents whose incomes
were still affected post-COVID-19 pandemic.
In total, YUTP received sponsorships and donations of RM42,700 to provide the school kits
consisting of a school bag, a stationery set, and a gift voucher worth RM150 for the purchase of
additional school supplies given to deserving students from 213 families. The identified recipients
are from schools in UTP’s surrounding community such as Seri Iskandar, Tronoh, and Bota in the
Perak area. Other recipients include the children of UTP janitors and security personnel.
2. UTP Technology, Career & Education (TEC) 2022
Technology, Education & Career (TEC) is an annual career fair serving as a platform for students
throughout Malaysia to explore the vast corporate world. TEC allows students to meet potential
employers through Career Talks from reputable companies, making it an ideal environment to
secure job placement.
In 2022, an amount of RM225,600 sponsorships were received by the UTP TEC 2022 committee
for the event.
3. UTP Convo Award Night 2022
In conjunction with the UTP Convocation ceremony, several side events were held in UTP to
commemorate this university event such as UTP Convo Award Night 2022 which were organised
on 05 November 2022, to recognise students who presented the best overall in their academic
performance and performed excellently in their special projects. Each category received a
certificate and cash prizes sponsored by corporations of the associated industry.
For the year 2022, YUTP received sponsorship for this event amounting to RM9,750 from
esteemed sponsors such as Beaux Square, ZNZ Tijarah Sdn Bhd, Global Water Consultants Sdn
Bhd, and many others.
4. UTP Capstone & Best Academic Awards 2022
As one of the events done under UTP Convocation 2022, Capstone & Best Academic Awards 2022
was specially organised to acknowledge outstanding capstone projects and student’ academic
excellence. These awards were among the most prestigious awards the university confers in
conjunction with industry sponsorship.
The event had received RM21,500 worth of sponsorship in 2022, thus far contributed by various
corporation and industries such as Assuring Consulting Sdn Bhd, Visinergy Sdn Bhd, Computer
Modelling Group Ltd, Inference Tech Sdn Bhd, and Efinix Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, among
others.
