Lee Jia 2.jpg "I am in good place because of YUTP"

Felicia Chiew, born and raised in Sarawak, comes from a humble, single income family with three other siblings who are still studying. Upon completion of her SPM, there was no foreseeable future in her pursuing a degree as her family’s commitment made this unattainable without any financial assistance back then. Her plan was to pursue teaching and to enrol into a teaching institution as it was the most reasonable option given her family’s financial situation, although it would not have been what she wanted.

A scholarship offer came to her doorstep that opened up an opportunity for her to study at UTP, and it was from Yayasan UTP. She was on cloud nine as she received the scholarship which she then accepted.

Felicia called Yayasan UTP scholarship a “godsend”. Her family’s burden was tremendously lifted when she was fully sponsored by Yayasan UTP covering the fees, accommodation, and monthly allowances throughout her studies at UTP.

As a student, Felicia was outstanding as she managed to maintain her CGPA and graduated with First Class Honours while being active with many student associations at UTP, including the Rotaract Club, UTP Chinese Orchestra Club, and Week-i-Media. As it turns out, UTP was the perfect fit for her.

“I am very lucky that I was selected by YUTP. Holding fast to an attitude of gratitude, I worked hard and did my very best,” said Felicia. “When I graduated, and when the opportunity came along, I decided to work with PETRONAS.”

Today, Felicia has been working as an engineer at PETRONAS Refinery & Petrochemical Corporation (PRPC) for six years and remains grateful since the moment she received the humbling opportunity offered to be a Yayasan UTP scholar. To quote her, “I am in a good place now because of the scholarship.”
