Motor Bearing Non-Invasive Fault Detection (MOBIT)

TECHNOLOGY READINESS LEVEL: 8

BRIEF TECHNOLOGY
MOBIT is a non-invasive and portable motor bearing fault detection device based on motor current signature analysis for data mining, diagnostic and prediction to improve process efficiency and assist decision-making.

PROBLEM STATEMENT & CURRENT ISSUES
  • Machine bearings are subject to excessive wear and damage, resulting in over 40% of all induction motor failures.
  • The existing systems' measuring parameters (noise, temperature) are too sensitive and prone to errors and vibrations, leading to inaccurate results.

USEFULNESS & APPLICATION
Key Features
  1. Measurement is taken at substation
  2. The motor health is displayed from the device
  3. Provides performance insights and visualizations
Data Visualization
  1. Park Vector Analysis and the statistical method (Kurtosis) classify the motor current according to the vibration data condition.
  2. The motor bearing conditions GREEN, YELLOW, and RED are displayed as messages at the bottom of the interface.

IMPACT OF THE PRODUCT
  • All motor statuses (Green, Yellow, Red) are correctly classified with an accuracy of 99%
  • Measurement is taken at the substation (no need to go to the field)
  • The motor health is displayed from the device and provides performance insights and visualizations
  • Carbon footprint from the personnel and logistic during maintenance can be minimized

MARKET SIZE
  • The Global Induction Motor Market is projected to grow by over 27.16 Billion USD in the 2030s.
  • Asia Pacific Induction Motor Market share will grow to 17.4 Billion USD in 2030.

BUSINESS MODEL
  • Option A - MOBIT Package: The package includes current clamps, a power adapter, instructions, and an operating manual. Approximate cost per device is RM 50,000
  • Option B - Consultancy Services: We are working with partners to offer consultancy services, with pricing based on the number of motors being monitored and the level of service provided.
