The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has identified 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering and developed an engineering education paradigm, the Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP). The programme’s goal is to prepare engineers to address these challenges.
As one of the top universities in Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) is committed to provide excellent teaching and learning experiences to its students and staff. Hence, UTP is pleased to submit a proposal to establish its Grand Challenge Scholars Program to provide quality engineering education for the students in particular and its engineering programme stakeholders in general.
The Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP) was introduced in February 2009 by a group of world-renowned engineering institutions, with endorsement from the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE). The GCSP program was motivated by NAE's four themes which encompass the world's 14 most complicated and important challenges for engineering.
The GCSP program’s purpose is to prepare engineering students to effectively tackle global issues by integrating their knowledge, expertise, and creativity with other experts in the fields of global and social issues.
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS has been admitted into the Grand Challenges Scholars Program network of institutions on 30th July 2022.
