​UTP Quality Day 2010 (13 Dec 2010)

 

 

 

This year’s UTP Quality Day (Q Day), the 8th sin​ce Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) embarked on its quality journey, was greeted with much enthusiasm by a total of 339 staff. Held on 13th of December at the Chancellor Hall, Q Day is a special ceremony celebrated to recognise staff dedication, contribution and commitment in the various categories.

 

It was also aimed to further broaden our awareness, increase our knowledge and strengthen our efforts in incorporating PETRONAS’ Five Quality Principles in our work and making continual quality improvement a corporate way of life. The event was officiated by the Rector, YBhg Datuk Dr. Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim.

 

In his Opening Address, YBhg Datuk Dr. Zainal highlighted that ethical values and practices are of utmost importance in good governance and are critical for the provision of quality services in the university. He added, “Quality Assurance and Good Governance can only be achieved if the UTP community upholds values and ethics such as discipline, accountability, honesty and the PETRONAS Shared Values of integrity, cohesiveness, professionalism and loyalty.” The Rector also shared the University Quality Road Map with the following targeted milestones:

 

  • Certification of the University’s Quality  Management System to ISO 9001:2008 by 2011under the scope of Curriculum Design & Review, and Final Examination for Degree Programme.
  • Retention of the University MSC Status by 2012
  • Achievement of TIER 6 (OUTSTANDING) Rating under SETARA 2012
  • Achievement of Nationally Recognised Research University by 2013
  • Achievement of Self-Accreditation Status by 2014
  • Achievement of an International Quality Award (e.g. Malcolm Baldridge Award) by 2014

 

 

 

The event was followed by a ‘Q Talk’ entitled ‘5Q Concepts of Excellence’ by Dr Danial bin Zainal Abidin, Managing Director of Danial Zainal Consultancy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd who had vast experience as a motivational speaker.

 

Later, the Rector presented certificates to 64 attendees of 5QPs and Corporate Agenda Workshop and tokens of appreciation to 18 of UTP Quality Facilitators. A total of 14 awards were presented during UTP Q Day 2010 including Long Service, Research, Publication, Effective Education Delivery, Personality and Cost Optimisation Award.  In total, there were 54 individual winners, 9 group winners and 48 recipients of 10 Years Service Award. The highlight of the day was the Outstanding Department Award won by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering​ for the Academic Category and Information Technology and Media Services for the Administrative Category.

 

 

 

Associate Professor Dr. Azween bin Abdullah from Computer & Information Sciences Department was chosen as the winner for Tagline Competition with his tagline ‘Embracing Quality Energizing Innovation’.

 

There were also sharing sessions by Tuan Hj Hasbullah Hj Ihsan representing Finance and Fund Department, winner for Cost Optimisation Award and Professor Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fadzil B Mohd Hani of Electrical & Electronics Department, the winner for Researcher of the Year Award (Professor Category).
