Also present at the launch was Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UTP. In his speech, he said that the event marked another key milestone on PETRONAS’ efforts to further the cause of education in Malaysia. With its founding as a charitable organisation, Yayasan UTP will be able to receive and administer donations from corporations and individuals – for whom contributions will be tax-deductible and channel them more effectively towards programmes that promote the education of Malaysian. He added, “ It will also be able to provide funding support for promising lines of research and innovation at Malaysian universities, consistent with the nation’s aspirations to foster a more innovation-driven development strategy”.
This Foundation has received contribution from organisations and individuals and would like to invite more parties and individuals to come forward and contribute to a worthy cause. It is hoped that with the contributions and assistance from the donors, sponsors and partners, Yayasan UTP will be able to build the philanthropic and financial support which is integral to realising the objectives of the foundation.
