Program Bersama UTP & JAKIM (17-19 Feb 2011)
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in collaboration with Malaysia Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) had organised a programme called ‘Program Bersama UTP & JAKIM’. The 3-day event starting from 17 – 19 February 2011 was in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday. The programme included several events such as Forum Perdana Hal Ehwal Islam, Ta’alim, Intellectual Discourse for International Students and many more.
The objective of ‘Program Bersama UTP & JAKIM’ were:

To deliver valuable educational messages to society.

To create a positive two-way communication between audience and panels who are well known for their wide experiences.

To make media as an alternative medium for effective learning.

To provide opportunities for students especially International Students to discuss matters regarding local and global issues involving Muslims.
The first day of the event kicked off with Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam in two versions; English and Bahasa Malaysia. The English version of Forum Perdana entitled “Palestine – A Global Issue” invited Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Chancellor of UTP and Prof Madya Dr. Haji Hafidzi b Mohd Nor, Director, Palestine Centre of Excellence (PACE) Malaysia, as the panelists. They shared their experiences in fighting for the rights of Islamic countries especially Palestine. The one hour programme ended with question and answer session by the audiences. This programme was recorded and broadcast on TV1 on Thursday, 17 March 2011 at 10.00pm.
The event right after the Forum Perdana in English was another Forum Perdana in Bahasa Malaysia entitled ‘Rahmat Seluruh Alam’. The panelists invited for the session were Prof. Dato’ Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin, Deputy Director General, Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM), Dr. Hj Zahazan Mohamed, Executive Director, Telaga Biru Sdn Bhd and Associate Professor Dr. Fakhruldin Mohd Hashim, Yang Dipertua Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia Cawangan Negeri Perak and Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Department of UTP. Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam in Bahasa Malaysia was broadcast live from Chancellor Hall UTP by RTM. These programmes were attended by Y.B Senator Dato’ Dr Mashitah Binti Ibrahim, Deputy Minister, Prime Minister’s Department, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Wan Mohamad bin Dato’ Sheikh Abd Aziz, Ketua Pengarah JAKIM, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam MALAYSIA (JAKIM), Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Hj Kasim, Rector of UTP, UTP staffs, students and public.
Day 2 started with a live telecast of Friday Prayers from Masjid An- Nur, UTP. The programme continued with a Ta’alim Session at the same venue. The final programme of these 3-day event, the Intellectual Discourse for International Students: Transformation of The Ummah was officiated by Timbalan Ketua Pengarah JAKIM , YB Tuan Hj Othman Mustapha. This was a joint programme between UTP, JAKIM and Institute of Islam Hadhari UKM. This programme was specially designed for international students who are currently studying in universities in Malaysia. The objectives of this programme are to expose students on the importance of appreciating values in life and the awareness about their responsibilities. The programme hopes to receive continuous feedback from international students to help improve the policies of Islam that is implemented in Malaysia. During this session, International students were very responsive on the policy of ‘1 Malaysia: Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan’. The International students were enthusiastic to know about the benefits and advantages of that policy to them. Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Yusof Othman, Pengarah Institut Islam Hadhari Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Tuan Haji Mohd Noor Rosli bin Baharom, Director of Student Services of UTP and Tuan Haji Mat Radzi bin Mat Ali, Pengarah Bahagian Inovasi dan Ketamadunan, JAKIM also attended the event.
The response from the 3-day event was very positively. It is hoped that the students, staff and public can obtain beneficial knowledge that can be applied in their daily lives towards the obligation to be a better ummah. Besides that, it is also an opportunity for UTP to enhance mutual networking with other organisation such as JAKIM.
