Over 200 UTP Students to Perform at Fund Raising Concert (13 March 2015)

Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), UTP, Alumni UTP and Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) will jointly organise Tapestry of Colours 2015 – a concert in support of Yayasan UTP (YUTP).  This fund-raising concert will be held at the renowned DFP on 17 May 2015, at 3.00 and 8.30 pm.

This was announced by Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, UTP Vice Chancellor at a press conference today.  At the press conference, the media was also treated with four preview performances of the concert namely Sireh Pinang, The Ox Battles the Tiger, Mozambique Dance and Bhangra Dance.

Tapestry of Colours 2015 is a musical gala event featuring a rich medley of songs and dance of local and international cultural heritage.  The concert will showcase over 200 talented student ensembles consisting of UTP Performing Arts Group, UTP Gamelan Group, UTP Chinese Orchestra Group, UTP Bhangra Group and UTP International Students Cultural Group.  The third installment since its inception in 2010, this year will also see popular artist, Siti Saleha, performing at the concert.  Guests of Honour for the concert will be Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, Chancellor of UTP and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah binti Mohd Ali.

Tickets for Tapestry of Colours 2015 are available via DFP Box Office, online at www.dfp.com.my or by phone at 603-2331 7007.  Prices range from RM30 to RM100.  Proceeds from the ticket sales will be channeled to Yayasan UTP (YUTP), a foundation that plays a key role in seeking donations and in forging new partnerships with individuals and organisations.  The Foundation supports UTP through the next phase of its growth as a leading educational institution that promotes creativity and innovation.

Contributions to UTP will provide much needed funds for the granting of scholarships to deserving students, supporting research and innovation, the development of activities related to the arts, sports and culture, and supporting the administration of the university.  Any donations towards YUTP are also tax deductible.  Since its establishment in 2010, YUTP has awarded scholarships and also bursaries of more than RM3.5 million with some 400 students as beneficiaries.
