UTP to Become the First University in Malaysia to Implement Admissions Testing Services (27 January 2015)
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Admissions Testing Service (ATS), University of Cambridge to provide assessment tools and services related to the selection of applicants for UTP’s foundation and undergraduate programmes.
UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim signed the MOA on behalf of UTP, while ATS University of Cambridge was represented by its Director, Mr. Simon Beeston. The second signatories were En. Solihuddin Ahmad Nasarudin, UTP Registrar and ATS Assistant Director, Mr. Andy Chamberlain.
The ceremony was witnessed by Education Minister II, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
Datuk Abdul Rahim said that the collaboration with University of Cambridge will make UTP one step closer to become the first university in Malaysia to implement the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) and Cambridge Personal Styles Questionnaire ® (CPSQ).
“The signing of the MOA today is a step towards establishing a better climate that offers tailored assessment services to support selection and recruitment for educational institutions.
UTP takes pride in nurturing students who are not only technically competent, but who are also able to exercise the ability to think critically and synthesise solutions for real world problems, hence the TSA and CPSQ assessments covered are in tandem with the University’s objective to produce well-rounded graduates,” said Datuk Abdul Rahim.
“UTP has been awarded the highest rating possible with regard to employability, internationalisation, and innovation to name but three. And in terms of these areas at Cambridge, ATS is committed to supporting UTP admissions processes that help identify students who will be best suited to the demands of higher education and the work place, particularly in an international context,” said Simon Beeston.
ATS is part of Cambridge Assessment; an international exams group designing and delivering assessments to over 8 million learners in over 170 countries. Founded in 1858, it is a not-for-profit department of the University of Cambridge committed to ensuring that all its assessments are fair, have sound ethical underpinning and operate according to the highest technical standards.
Also present at the ceremony were PETRONAS Chairman and UTP Pro Chancellor, Tan Sri Sidek Hassan and PETRONAS Senior Vice President, Group Human Resource & Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn Bhd Chairman, Puan Raiha Azni Abdul Rahman.
