UTP Organised the Annual Peacock Bass Daiwa Masters Challenge
(23 September 2019)
More than 800 anglers turned up at UTP on 23 September 2019 for the annual Peacock Bass Daiwa Master Challenge. This year, the event attracted participants from all over the nation, including international anglers from Japan and Hong Kong.
The competition was held in conjunction with UTP 19th Convocation Ceremony and is part of UTP's CSR effort to improve the native fish population by removing the peacock bass. The fish is a predator as it eats almost any small native fish, thus affecting the local fish ecosystem.
The event was officiated by YB Hasnul Zulkarnain, Perak's EXCO for Communication, Multimedia and NGO. Also present at the event were UTP 19th Convocation Committee Chairman, AP Dr. Azrai Hj Abdullah, Daiwa Malaysia President, Mr. Terashita Shoji and Daiwa Pro Angler, Mr. Yukinari Uchiyama.
The event was organised by UTP Angling Society with support by Persatuan Pemancing Perak, Silibin Tackle and KSKKU. The event was sponsored by Daiwa.
More than 300 peacock bass was caught by the participants.
Shuhaimie Bin Ahmad was announced as the grand prize winner as he caught the longest peacock bass at 41cm.
