The Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan PETRONAS festive programme has returned, aiming to bring joy and happiness to 1,500 less privileged Malaysians nationwide this Chinese New Year.
From 15 January until 8 February 2020, Yayasan PETRONAS is collaborating with state agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and volunteers from PETRONAS to hand out basic necessities, household items, hampers and ‘angpow’ to assist families in need.
Volunteers will be taking part in ‘gotong-royong’ activities with members of the communities, and the beneficiaries will also be treated to lion dance performances, ushering in the Year of the Rat.
At this year’s inaugural Sentuhan Kasih Tahun Baru Cina programme here today, Yayasan PETRONAS Chief Executive Officer Lita Osman said: “We hope to fulfil the needs of less privileged Malaysian families and individuals and put smiles on their faces this new year through the Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan PETRONAS programme.”
In Perak, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) volunteers today reached out to 100 beneficiaries from Pusat Jagaan 1 Malaysia Ipoh, Rumah Anak Yatim dan Miskin Anning Ipoh, The Salvation Army Ipoh Children’s Home and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Chung Sun Tronoh.
They received vouchers for the purchase of new clothes from UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib.
Jaszmin Hanim Hussain, UTP volunteer, said: “I believe even a small act of kindness can impact the lives of those in need and, therefore, make their celebration more meaningful.”
The Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan PETRONAS programme is part of the Foundation’s Community Well-being and Development focus area, initiated to coincide with major festive celebrations in Malaysia. It provides an avenue for Yayasan PETRONAS to work with communities to provide for their basic needs and well-being.
