19 January 2023

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Ain-Integrated Logistics Solutions (Ain-ILS) Group have signed an agreement to collaborate on various initiatives aimed at supporting a greener and cleaner future.

The partnership will focus on biomass valorisation and fuel production, as well as other projects that align with a sustainable business ecosystem and cleaner environment.

Through this collaboration, UTP and Ain-ILS Group will work together to develop and implement innovative technologies that can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of renewable energy sources.

The partnership will also aim to create an inclusive and more sustainable economy that benefits all stakeholders, including businesses, communities, and the environment.

The signatories of the agreement were UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and Ain-ILS Group Chairman Dato’ Wan Ariff Wan Hamzah.

According to Mohamed Ibrahim, “We are excited to partner with Ain-ILS Group to promote greener and cleaner initiatives for a sustainable future that will bring mutual benefits for the environment, economy and society.

“By working together, we believe we can make a real impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.

“With the existence of UTP’s Centre for Biofuel and Biochemical Research (CBBR) and Centre of Urban Resource Sustainability (CUReS), the university is ready to ramp up its collaborative research with Ain-ILS Group to monetise different biomass resources via greener and cleaner technologies.

“UTP’s expertise extends across a range of biofuels derived from a variety of resources and its researchers have achieved breakthroughs in the development and demonstration of biofuel processes and continue to lead in the development of clean fuels. This is in line with PETRONAS’ aspiration to move towards Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2050 (NZCE 2050),” he added.

Meanwhile, Wan Ariff said, “I am deeply honoured and grateful to be working together in partnership with UTP.  It is an ideal combination in reality of business life to get the support of dedicated research and development team in UTP.  This partnership spreads across the scope of biomass, biofuels and green energy for utility and transportation. The synergies arising from these engagements from the basis of efforts in prospecting cutting-edge technological know-how and promote the development of sustainable and renewable energy.

“Ain-ILS group (which comprised of Integrated Logistics Solutions Sdn Bhd, Gas Pantai Timur Sdn Bhd, Ain Medicare Sdn Bhd and Ain Biomass Industries Sdn Bhd.) and UTP will play proactive roles in the commercialisation of all joint-research results based on the scope mentioned.  New paradigms are necessary to build a sustainable social economy of tomorrow within these group of companies towards a clean, reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy supply.

“I am looking forward to the new and exciting phase of the partnership in the sustainable technology sectors to promote all industrial companies to decarbonise their operations at all levels,” he added.
